The Sirius II GTX from Hanwag is a mountain boot that is perfect for any good hiker who enjoys ambitious treks through the mountains.
These category D rigid boots are suitable for both alpine challenges and simple walks in low temperatures, thanks to their light insulation.
The upper is made of high-quality cowhide leather, making it both robust and durable.
The upper edge is soft leather, providing a high level of comfort.
These boots also feature a Gore-Tex membrane to keep your feet dry.
The Vibram Alpin Light outer sole provides excellent support and optimal cushioning, absorbing shocks well with a polyurethane wedge along the entire length of the foot.
The mountaineering boots can be equipped with crampons.
The thermoplastic polyurethane scree protection edge protects the upper from impact and rubbing against rocks.
The lacing system is easily accessible, allowing for support that meets the needs of its use. The tightening loops make two-zone lacing convenient.
In conclusion, the Hanwag Sirius II GTX is a reliable, thoroughbred mountaineering boot for any challenge or climb, regardless of its difficulty.
Choosing the perfect hiking boots for alpine terrain can be a headache. With so many outstanding options, the question remains the same: which one is perfect for you?
I was lucky enough to have found mine. I bought my new Hanwag Sirius II GTX hiking boots online and they were a great fit, thanks to the detailed size chart description.
My new hiking boots are Hanwag’s Sirius II for women.
These boots offer the most comfort with their shape, not only at the front of the toes but also in their width.
The ankle fit is also perfect, providing full support even on steep and slippery terrains.
The clamping buckles that block the laces and allow for two-zone lacing are a small but practical detail.
I tested my boots on a day hike with mixed terrain, including rocks, grass, snow, and ice, and they felt like they had been worn for years.
They were compatible with step-in crampons, fitting well with French, German, and American-made crampons on high slope gradients.
The ankle support was more than satisfactory, making my feet and boots feel like one.
The outer sole has great grip, and in case of damage after prolonged use, Hanwag will replace them.
Price
While alpine trekking boots are not the cheapest option, the Hanwag Sirius II GTX is worth every penny. These boots offer reliable performance and comfort, making them ideal for any mountain adventure. With the high-quality materials, outstanding design, and reliable performance, you can’t go wrong with the Hanwag Sirius II GTX.
Everyone knows that alpine trekking boots aren’t the cheapest boots to buy. Compared with boots in the same category, the Hanwag Sirius II came a little more affordable, and the money difference allowed me to buy two pairs of Hanwag socks!
Weight
Boot weight is also essential in hiking boots. And I am thrilled to say that I didn’t feel like wearing heavy boots. In comparison with my previous boots – Koflach– they are much lighter.
About the ankle support
As I mentioned, the extra clip that allows you to tighten the lower part of the boot or the upper/ankle is a big advantage since you can get the perfect ankle fit.
Sirius II offers maximum ankle support because of the length of the upper part.
Durability
The boot’s construction is robust, with full grain leather and roll guard rubber edge to offer excellent protection from the elements.
The leather is breathable (Gore-Tex lining), waterproof, and warm even in freezing temperatures.
Pros
- True to size

- Good insulation
- Warm built – insulated for low temperatures
- High rubber band for excellent protection

- Vibram outsole

Cons
I haven’t found any yet, but I will update my review as soon as I have something more to say.
Extra
I also got two pairs of Hanwag socks, a Thermo pair, and bunion socks.
Perfect choice for both of them but don’t wear the thermo on a sunny day. It gets really hot! Even those with cold feet will find it too hot to wear on sunny days.
Both pairs have an excellent fit.
